TRAP T-250D FS CRITICAL FACILITY SECURITY REMOTE DELAY / DENIAL SYSTEM

The deployment of remote weapon platforms is an innovative and cost-effective way to meet the “Design Basis Threat (DBT)” and deliver significantly increased security.  The TRAP T250D was the first-generation design and has been superseded by the TRAP T-360 FS and the SENTRY I and II designs.  These systems, however, are still deployed and in use in various high-security facilities awaiting future upgrades.

Precision Remotes LLC. (PRL) is the leading manufacturer of remote weapon systems designed specifically for the defense of high-security facilities.

The Telepresent Rapid Aiming Platform (TRAP) T-250D FS (facility security) and T250D (tactical) are Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) systems. The operator controls the system from a position of safety and can fire multiple rounds (lethal or non-lethal depending on the weapon) with extraordinary accuracy.

The T-250D FS remote weapon platforms are controlled from facility security to the operations center, i.e., the centralized location for security data. The security the team collects and analyzes data from the site’s multiple security sensors determines the nature of the threat, and, if lethal force is required, uses the TRAP T-250D to respond accordingly.  PCS_image_1

The response can be made in seconds and is overwhelmingly compelling, using just a small team of T-250D FS operators. USAF testing of TRAP indicated it is a 20:1 force multiplier when protecting an area against an opposing ground threat. This force-multiplying capability minimizes the need to increase personnel in the face of growing DBT requirements.

The T-250D FS has the potential to reduce security costs significantly and can pay for itself in just a few years. The system is extremely safe and easy to operate. Multiple safety systems virtually eliminate the possibility of false fire. Command oversight is built-in, with at least two operators required to fire.

The T-250D FS is housed in an environmental armored clamshell that protects the weapon from the elements, secures it against tampering, and keeps it out of sight until needed. It accommodates a wide range of weapon types in the 7.62mm (.308 cal) and 5.56mm (.223 cal) range. Each weapon uses its adapter plate to mount onto the remote platform. There is no need to modify the gun. Tens of thousands of rounds from these weapons have been fired from TRAP platforms.

The T-250D tactical unit is an ideal complement to the T-250D FS. The smaller tactical unit serves as a trainer for live-fire range operations and, alternatively, as a highly useful portable response tool. PRL has designed, built, and delivered more than 250 remotely controlled weapon and surveillance systems since March 1999 for multiple branches of the US Department of Defense, USAF, DOE, Nuclear Management Companies, the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense, and the Israeli Ministry of Defense.  No other company has this depth of experience with remotely operated weapon platforms for small arms in the facility security arena.

 WHY INVEST IN REMOTE SECURITY?

Invest in RWS because it is a Faster, Safer Response System than Armed Security Guards Alone!

The TRAP T-250D FS is the premier anti-terrorism/force protection (AT/FP) solution for US NRC-regulated installations. Properly trained TRAP operators respond to a threat with a decisive overmatch capability with minimal risk to facility personnel and the surrounding community.

The T-250D FS is typically deployed in positions with direct line-of-sight to the facility perimeter or other critical areas. This forward deployment, focused upon recognized avenues of approach, enables the TRAP to respond to detected threats in seconds, day or night, in virtually all-weather conditions. As soon as the protective housing begins to open, the system is ready to fire.

The T-250D FS operates as just one part of a facility’s entire security network. The TRAP’s control system resides in the facility’s security operations center, a location where operators access data from other sensors such as long-range daytime / thermal surveillance cameras, ground-based radars, and other intrusion detection systems.

This data access means that the T-250D FS operators share the maximum amount of information, at the earliest possible time, regarding the location and intent of the threat; and then quickly make an  “informed decision” on how best to respond.

Delay / Denial On Call

The T-250D FS delivers unrivaled accuracy and lethality to defeat an attacking force while minimizing the possibility of collateral damage. It performs at an expert marksman level regardless of the security officer’s manual shooting abilities. TRAP enables operators to fire to the full active range of the weapon mounted on the platform. This performance far exceeds that of security officers traditionally using weapons, primarily when operating in a high-stress situation.

Other key T-250D FS capabilities:

• Security officers remain out of the elements, so their abilities are not degraded by temperature or weather extremes.

• Security officers are out of the line of fire, allowing them to focus on the effective execution of critical tasks without concern for their immediate safety.

• Senior security personnel always have real-time chain-of-command oversight . The system offers a Supervisor Enable Disable System (SEDS) that eliminates single person system operation.

• TRAP easily integrates with many existing intrusion detection systems, so the remote platform nearest the threat automatically opens and slews to the appropriate location. This capability further reduces response time and maximizes the interoperability and overall effectiveness of the facility’s security system.

• When not in use, the platform’s clamshell housing is closed, keeping the weapon protected from the elements, secure, and out of mind to all but informed security staff.

• It nullifies the enemy’s tactical use of suppressive fire. The TRAP will not duck or cover when fired upon; instead, its operator can calmly aim and eliminate the exposed threat.

• It provides devastating final denial capability at key indoor chokepoints such as doorways or halls.

Cost-Effective Response to the Design Basis Threat

The United States Air Force TRAP testing called the ROWS system a 20:1 force multiplier in defense against external ground threats. The T-250D FS represents an ideal way to respond to the increasing demands of Design-Based Threat (DBT) without adding human resources. TRAP maximizes the effective use of such a highly skilled security workforce. Response teams can be deployed to those areas where they are most needed, while the TRAP provides initial reaction and covering capability.  PRL invites the reader to perform their analysis on the cost-effectiveness based on their security cost structure.

Training and maintenance on the T-250D FS are affordable components of the ownership cycle. The system requires little ongoing support with a small suggested spare part inventory. Training is efficient and cost-effective. Most operators can become acquainted with the system in one day and become proficient with 10 hours of hands-on training.
